Matt. 10:24-25 “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. It is enough for a disciple that he be like his teacher, and a servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household!” A disciple of Christ is one who (1) believes his doctrine, (2) rests on his sacrifice, (3) imbibes his spirit, and (4) imitates his example (Matt. 10:24; Luke 14:26, 27, 33; John 6:69). [Easton’s 1897 Bible Dictionary]. After believing & being baptized one must continually follow the commandments of God, and : 2 Pet. 3:18 “…grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ…” James 2:14-26 “…Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only…” Acts. 17:11 “…they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily…” Gal. 1:6-9 - “I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.” 2 Tim. 2:15 - “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth .” |
